Washington & Jefferson - Dormitories
Washington & Jefferson College, founded in 1781, is a private liberal arts college in Southwestern Pennsylvania. The firm was commissioned to design a new phased residence hall complex, consisting of two similar buildings forming a quad at the perimeter of the campus that interfaced with the City. The placement of the buildings, flanking a major traffic artery, also defined the edge of the campus.
The two-four (4) story masonry and precast concrete buildings reflect the Georgian Revival style, complementing the college’s traditional aesthetic and provide a total of 233 beds in suite-style accommodations. Suites consist of two single occupancy rooms and one double occupancy room, accompanied by a living area and two bathrooms. Public areas include lounges and study areas at each residence hall.
The first building was funded directly by the college and after successful completion, W & J College sought proposals from nationally recognized developers of student housing to complete the second. The college selected Capstone Development for the project and to provide additional development of Greek theme housing and interest group housing as a separate development.
