CCAC - West Hills Center
In 2005, the Community College of Allegheny County purchased a thirty-four acre site in North Fayette Township in the Western Suburbs of Pittsburgh for the purpose of creating the West Hills Center. The site was originally developed in the early 1960s by the Chrysler Corporation, who built a regional office linked to a 125,000 square foot auto parts warehouse. Subsequent owners of the property were Westinghouse and Siemens.
The existing buildings were converted from a warehouse and office space into a center for integrated technologies, conventional classrooms, center for professional development, and training space for careers in auto repair, HVAC, plumbing, and welding.
The grand corridor with curved wall guides visitors through the technical high-bay area into the core of the building, which is illuminated with a new atrium opening to a 16-foot octagonal skylight. From this core area, one has access to all of the building amenities, including a dining area, bookstore, administrative office, and student life rooms.
