Burgettstown Train Station
This passenger rail station is a prime example of the small wood-framed structures that were placed along the vibrant rail transportation links that connected the country throughout the early part of the 20th century. By the 1990s the structure had fallen into severe disrepair and was structurally unstable.
In 2007, the rail beds were converted to a pedestrian/ bicycle trail, connecting Carnegie, PA with Weirton, WV. Prior to completion of the trail, the BACDC purchased the station and raised funds to temporarily stabilize the building. RSH Architects designed a master plan for the site and created a phased restoration plan.
Phase One of the restoration includes new foundations, walls, and roof creating a watertight, structurally sound building envelope.
Phase Two includes exterior finishes, space for a small business on the first floor, restrooms, bicycle rental shop, and a community meeting room.
