Clarion University Suites

RSH Architects was engaged by Capstone Development to advance the final design and to provide all architectural and engineering services for the first phase of a two-phase student residence hall complex. Building upon the master plan and preliminary designs produced by Design Collective, Inc., our firm addressed complex existing site issues, involving a water tower and distribution lines and grade differentials exceeding 60 feet across the site. Floor plans were developed to address these challenges while remaining true to the master plan’s concept of future residential development of 600 student accommodations around an open mall.

The final designs resulted from a productive dialog between the Clarion University Foundation and Capstone’s team of architectural and engineering professionals. Management goals and technical provisions for future development were incorporated into the process. Consistent with other State System of Higher Education venues, the new residence halls were designed and constructed in conformance with LEED® Silver Certification criteria.

The aesthetic of the two buildings reflects the architectural style of the University’s original Founder’s Hall, featuring rusticated bases, arched entries, and brick facades. The four-story wood-frame structures provide suite-style accommodations for 360 students and a resident manager, with support amenities including study areas, conferencing facilities, and common use kitchens.
