Pittsburgh Builders Exchange

Location:
Pittsburgh, PA

Services: Architecture, Interior Design.

Project Narrative: The Pittsburgh Builders Exchange, established in 1886, is one of the oldest such exchanges in the nation. Due to anticipated lease difficulties at the exchange's former location, they challenged our firm with strict time and budget constraints, to which the design responded without sacrifice to quality or efficiency of operations.

The Exchange desired a contemporary working environment that would afford flexibility to expand their services through the 21st century. The aesthetic incorporates sharp angles and radii within the shell of the building in juxtaposition to the long linear quality of the exterior. Two exterior features foretell of its special interior character - the brilliant golden color of its walls and the Parklex frontispieces at each of the entrances. The interior color and material selections evoke the industrial aesthetic desired by the Exchange.
